During the next several weeks, the Institute of Social and Cultural Research at the Belize City House of Culture is hosting an informative display on one of Belize favourite pastimes: the playing of the Boledo and Sunday Lottery. Despite being a half-century old, both games are still very much popular.

Lita Krohn, Director, House of Culture
“It’s very much alive, you know. People thought when Lotto came and when you know all these other new gambling casinos, but people still stick to their Boledo.”

There are as many winning strategies as there are players, but most people still rely on dreams, accidents, and even the writings of fortune-tellers like King Tut to bring them some luck.

And to get in step with the September celebrations, another exhibition invites you to “Big Up Your Patriots.”

Lita Krohn
“Every year we want to have “Big Up Your Patriots.” We didn’t give it as much publicity this year, but we want people to think ahead of time and every year we want to build up on what we already have. This year we went into black consciousness leaders and we went into Caribbean and the Americas leaders.”

Teachers and students are especially invited to take advantage of the displays on at the House of Culture. Jacqueline Woods for News Five.
