Mexico Hosts Tourism Fair

Three weeks ago, a bilateral meeting was held between the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry and its counterparts in Mexico. As a follow-up to that meeting, today at the Institute of Mexico in Belize City, the Chetumal Chamber of Commerce and the Embassy of Mexico organized a tourism fair which allowed for tour operators, travel agencies, hotels, car insurance agencies and restaurants from Chetumal, Mahahual and Bacalar to link with local entrepreneurs. The objective of the fair was to strengthen trade relations between both countries in an effort to create multi-destination packages in tourism. News Five spoke today with Mexican Ambassador, Mario Velazquez Suarez.

“It’s just wonderful to have this kind of occasions when we can exchange Mexican and Belizean entrepreneurs because when they meet together in that moment, they may just realize that perhaps you have the ideas, the knowledge, the products that I need. And what if they meet each other and they find a business opportunity. It is selling and buying. Belizeans selling and buying in Mexico and Mexicans selling and buying in Belize; together we can do it. For that reason, we have this intention, bringing these entrepreneurs to Belize and having Belizeans entrepreneurs in Mexico. And you have today that the CANACO Servi-Tur, this Mexican organization of entrepreneurs in Mexico are inviting Belizeans to come to their premises in Mexico for making business in Mexico, for selling Belizean products and services in Mexico and also to exchange with the Mexicans. We can do it and we are doing it in that way.”

The Belize Tourism Board made presentations on the Belize experience as well as the regional tourism opportunities between Belize and Mexico.
