Applicants sought for Ashcroft scholarships

He may not be running for mayor, but the name Michael Ashcroft is not exactly unknown in these parts. Despite that notoriety, the scholarship fund that bears his name is one of Belize’s best kept secrets. At any given time nine Belizeans are enrolled in the degree programme at the Ashcroft International Business School at Anglia Polytechnic University in England and six have already graduated. Applications are now being received for the school year beginning in September 2006 from Belizean residents aged seventeen to twenty-one. The scholarships cover the cost of tuition, living expenses and travel for the three or four years of study. Upon graduation students must pursue a career in Belize for a minimum of five years. Three candidates will be selected this year and the application deadline is November eighteenth. Interested persons should contact their school principal or Michael Coye at the Belize Bank.
