Rotary Club Distributes Wheelchairs in Belize City

A generous shipment of wheelchairs has arrived in the country for distribution countrywide. The first batch is being delivered in Belize City where the need is the highest throughout the country.  The gift is from four different Rotary Clubs of Canada to the local Rotary Clubs. A ceremony was held on Thursday at Cisco Construction during which the hundred and ten wheelchairs were handed over by representatives from the Northern Lights Rotary Club of Edmonton for onward distribution.

“Last year when we came to know that yours was one of the areas that was keen in helping these people eternally inspired us. And we thought at that time that we would like to join this club by sending our representatives, by donating wheelchairs and by helping people to help themselves who need our help. It has been a wonderful experience really. I mean from the talk that I heard this morning, how committed the people are and what we would like to do and promise to you in all sincerity that we will even make increased efforts to help you both by wheelchairs, but with projects in trying to provide water—if we are successful—in getting our schemes approved because this has been truly inspiring.”

“Today, we have been blessed with a hundred and ten wheelchairs from four different clubs in Canada. We have the Rotary Club of Saskatchewan, we got the Rotary Club of Laklabish, we got the Rotary Club of Edmonton Northern Lights and we have the Rotary Club of Dawson Creek. They put all the money together to make these wheelchairs possible. We manage to clear it and coordinate all the distribution. With the help of all the Rotary Clubs in Belize we are going to get all chairs countrywide distributed. We’ve pretty much already gotten all the chairs out and names on each chair. We start the distribution right now. We just finished our ceremony and we are going to work on Belize City because that is where the majority of them go. We have a truck coming in from Orange Walk to pick up the Orange Walk bunch. We have a representative from Rotary Cayo and they will be taking about a dozen chairs as well.”
