P.U.C. wants to complement Mexican power supply

John Avery

According to P.U.C. Chairman John Avery, the objective is to secure additional energy to the national grid in times of power shortage.

John Avery, Chairman, Public Utilities Commission

“The purpose for securing adequate supply in country is to compliment some of the supply we get from Mexico so we could become more self-reliant so we could have more generation in country to supply at least our basic demands.  And, of course, also to pursue the government’s policy or as implementation of the government’s policy to promote clean renewable energy supplies in the country.  That is the reason we asked for bids for the fifteen megawatts of intermittent power supply, being namely solar and wind.  We had gotten, I think, forty-two expressions of interest.”

The company whose project is selected will enter into an agreement with Belize Electricity Limited.
