Free Zone not free of marijuana users

Story PicturePolice officers are usually expected to catch culprits with illegal substances, but the tables turned today when a few of them were caught with drugs in the Free Zone. The top brass in the force up north were tipped off and quick action led to a number of arrests. Inspector James Moreira, the Deputy O.C. in Corozal told us what happened.

“What transpired this morning is that, acting on information of our employees entering the Zone with illegal drugs and substance, we carried an investigation by launching an operation in searching the employees before entering the Free Zone in order to locate or find any illegal drugs that would be entering in the Zone. That’s the operation this morning.”

Delahnie Bain
“Were there any large quantities or anything outstanding?”

Insp. James Moreira
“Small quantities were found and a few arrests were made.”

Delahnie Bain
“Is this something that happens often; the operation or…”

Insp. James Moreira
“Yes, we have done it more than two, three times already.”

Delahnie Bain
“You mentioned that it was illegal drugs, what kind?”

Insp. James Moreira
“Marijuana; small quantities of marijuana.”
