Third Person Charged for A&R Heist

Belize City police have arrested and charged another suspect for the armed robbery of A and R store which occurred back on twentieth August.  During the heist, robbers made off with twelve thousand, two hundred and seventy-nine dollars in cash. So far, three persons have been linked to the brazen daylight robbery, including a security guard.  Over the weekend, nineteen-year-old Joseph Lopez, a computer technician and resident of Lavender Street, was also arrested and charged in connection with the theft.  He formally joins twenty-one-year-old Kevin Bodden and twenty-eight-year-old Leroy Ciego as suspects in the robbery which left employees traumatized.   Lopez was arraigned this morning in the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith.  He was read a single charge of robbery when he appeared unrepresented in court earlier today.  Lopez pleaded not guilty and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until November twenty-sixth, when Bodden is also due back in court for the same offense.  Ciego, on the other hand, faces charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and is also on pretrial detention.  He is also scheduled to return to court on November twenty-sixth. Ciego was the first person to be charged in connection with the incident. On August twentieth at around 6:00 p.m., two armed robbers stormed into A and R store. Police say one held up the security guard, while two made their way into the store where they relieved the business of over twelve thousand dollars in cash.  Also lifted from employees and their children were personal items and jewelry. But twenty-one year old Bodden was back in court today for shooting and injuring a cop back in 2012. His trial started two weeks ago before Justice Troadio John Gonzalez, he and Lloyd Elijio were accused in the shooting of  Police Constable Abel Mendez but Bodden was charged with Grievous Harm and found Guilty of that charge this afternoon by a jury of nine. He was sentenced to three years in prison.
