Olympians Gearing Up for World Games 2015

There are two hundred and thirty-seven registered athletes who participate in events under the aegis of the Special Olympics, and the committee is always looking to increase that number. That is why the donation today was so important. The next sporting event will include games in all districts, as well as national games in December. In addition, the Special Olympics has World Games on a four year rotation, and the next games are in 2015. According to Auil, participation in the games is especially important to children with disabilities.

Alan Auil

“Our main goal in this organization is to provide sporting opportunities, it leads to a whole lot more, it helps them to become fit, it gives them more confidence, it brings them closer to the community. So there is a lot of extra benefits and the way we achieve all of it is by providing sporting opportunities for them and that is really what the money is going to be used for. We have this program called healthy athlete program in which we get local doctors, nurses and dentist to be trained, we bring specialist to train them how to attend to persons with disabilities. When we have a sporting event we have a medical tent somewhere on the compound, all our athlete have free access to screening. Ponce thing that Special Olympics have found out is a lot of our athletes and persons with intellectual disability, sometimes it is difficult for them to communicate when they have illnesses. Sometimes the parent ignores and we feel like giving them this opportunity aids them in becoming healthier. And these are the things we want to bring for the community; we want to be able to help all our athletes, not just to provide sports but to improve their lives in general. And these are the things that we do. I don’t want to make a plea just for money, it is more than that, we need volunteer as well. We do need the money, we need the funding but we also need the volunteers. Volunteer coaches, volunteer who just want to help to join advocacy movements and it can be from teenagers to adults, retired person. If you think you have time to lend to Special Olympics. In raising money for us, in helping to coach, helping to organize then please call.”

If you’d like to assist in Special Olympics in any way, the number to call is six seven one five six four one. They’ll be waiting for your call.
