Beenie Man Gets the Green Light from UNIBAM

The fuss over the Bobby Chin Birthday Bash Concert has all but been settled. Earlier this week, the attorney for the United Belize Advocacy Movement, UNIBAM, wrote to the promoters of the upcoming concert threatening to seek an injunction if the Jamaican Dancehall Superstar does not refrain from lyrics that “incite, the murder of His Holiness the Pope, incite and advocate the hate/harm or murder of LGBT persons and promote harm and/or forcible sexual acts against women (and) girls….” Well, all is well that ends well, because promoter Bobby Chin has now provided public assurances that the show will be free of lyrics that promote violence or homophobia. UNIBAM says it is satisfied with the undertaking and notes that as the main promoter, Bobby Chin, has stated “My rule from day one, I told every sound this, if you come to my birthday party and you play a bad word or you play anything against any group, you’re not going to get paid. That’s just my rule…” The Birthday Bash will take place at Cahal Pech Resort on October eighteenth.
