US Embassy Responds

Since last Friday, News Five emailed the US Embassy with a series of questions in respect of the contract issued to BINARQ. Late this evening, we got a response. While the embassy did not directly respond to our queries, they did say the following. First, in consideration of the strong U.S./Belize partnership, the US Southern Command and the embassy are currently examining the contracting procedures and construction efforts underway to address Government of Belize concerns. Second, the bidding process for these infrastructure projects is transparent and open to a pool of international contractors under the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Central America “Multiple Award Task Order Contracts.”  Third, that the Army Corps of Engineers grants the contract to the company assessed to provide the best product at the most reasonable cost as is the custom with contract bidding and as such BINARQ was assessed as the most qualified. Fourth, the embassy also confirmed that the forward operating base in San Pedro was constructed by the same Guatemalan company. And lastly, the makes the point that the Hunting Caye F.O.B. will bring positive benefits for the Belize National Coast Guard meaning that construction is surely to continue.

Go ahead people, look that gift horse in the mouth. Do you really think that GOB could have built the base? Get real! Be grateful for the donations and quit cry babying about who got the contract.

Is Obama so clueless what’s happening with Belize and Guatemala? All you want is cheap labour from Guatemala! How much more would it be to get Belizeans involved in their own betterment of their country? Higher our Belizean People and support small Businesses! If not, butt out!

  4. OH Well says:

If Belizean contractors weren’t such thieves maybe they would be able to get contracts. Still waiting for the Progresso Road to finish how many have been awarded that contract…money done no road. Just saying.
