Teacher stabs ex-common-law wife multiple times before taking his life

Nicole Swaso

A terrible domestic tragedy in the quiet village of Seine Bight has left a woman clinging to life, while the man who viciously stabbed her took his own life. At around eleven-thirty on Saturday, police were called to a house in the village and discovered a woman bleeding profusely from multiple stab wounds to the head and body. They also made the grisly discovery of a man hanging from a beam in the house. Early indications are that teacher Brian Castillo and Nicole Swaso, once a couple, were estranged and had been for over a year. Their relationship, we are told, was a tempestuous one, and on Saturday it turned deadly. Via phone today, Southern Regional Commander, Superintendent Ralph Moody, told News Five what happened when police were called to the scene.

“They met a young lady, Nicole Zwaso, thirty-four years of age, presently residing in the Dangriga area and they also found a male person – Brian Castillo – thirty-three years of age of Seine Bight Village, who appeared to be hanging from a beam, who committed suicide. Investigation into the matter led to the discovery that Mister Brian Castillo stabbed Miss Nicole Swaso several times to the neck, the back and to the chest area…also on her leg. She was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital where she is critical, but stable in the hospital. As well, Mister Brian Castillo’s body was also transported to the Stann Creek Hospital where it is awaiting a postmortem.”

“Have you all been able to find out from maybe talking to neighbors if this is a domestic situation where the couple was always known to be fighting?”

“Based on our investigation, it is revealing that it is an ongoing domestic problem that they have been having for some time. Investigation is also revealing that they have not been living together for at least over the past six months.”

Police are waiting for the victim to recover to the point where she would be able to provide more information to them in their investigation.
