Belmopan Police on Rape Investigation

Howell Gillett

The Belmopan Police has been investigating the allegation of sexual molestation since it was reported to them. Even as the mother of the alleged victim and other parents claim they are covering up the story, Belmopan O.C. Howell Gillett maintains that because of the sensitive nature of the alleged crime, they want to ensure that the investigation is handled properly. Today Gillett, accompanied by a representative from the Ministry of Education, spoke to the media and provided an update.

Supt. Howell Gillett, O.C., Belmopan Police Formation
“First of all, I want to clear the air with it. There was a report made on the sixteen of September regarding a five year old child who suffered an injury. The police investigated and I don’t know where the media got that from that the person was sodomised or the person was sexually assaulted. We are privy to the doctor’s report now and the doctor’s report confirms that there was no sexual abuse; that all the child suffered was a scratch to the anus area.”

“Sir the family and the critics who are behind this are saying that that’s not  in fact what the doctor’s report is saying; that it says that the child was injured in the rear and that it shows evidence of penetration. They don’t concede that it was only a scratch. They believe that penetration happened with a foreign object—fingers or an object like a stick or something like that. And they believe that it was inflicted on the child out of two kids playing—not sexual, but out of mischief.”

Supt. Howell Gillett

“Well for sure, the doctor was very clear on that; that there was no penetration. I don’t want to get into the very detail because it is not for the public’s consumption. But I am certain and I am happy to have this report in our possession. The child was not sexually abuse, there was no penetration and the doctor was very clear on that. So I don’t know why others are saying this. I think there were some inconsistencies on the part of certain media houses—I do not care to mention them now—but I think that is what got this thing out of control. But we are very clear and we are happy to report to the media that there was no penetration, no foreign fluid, anything on this child’s test that was done.”

According to Gillett, they want to bring the matter to a close, and are hoping this interview today will do that.
