Sudden Death at K.H.M.H., Teenager Dies Mysteriously

Maria Larios

A mother and aunt are tonight grieving the sudden death of a thirteen year old girl at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Maria Larios was admitted to the K.H.M.H. on Monday afternoon after receiving initial treatment at the Cleopatra Polyclinic earlier that day; she had high fever and no appetite. Maria did not appear to be gravely ill, but two days later, the student of Stella Maris Primary School passed away at the hospital. The family recounted this morning the series of events that led to her death; they believe that the hospital did not provide the adequate treatment.

“The little girl had fever and was getting treatment at Cleopatra Polyclinic until about three o’clock Monday afternoon. She was vomiting because she had fever. She was transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but her temperature did not go down. They gave her a Tylenol and after an hour they gave her another Tylenol and then an hour and a half after that, yet another Tylenol. Subsequently around two a.m., she was taken upstairs to the medical ward and there, the fever still did not go down. Yesterday, the little girl was really bad when I reached; she had fever but she was talking with me. I told her I brought the tablet so let’s play candy crush and she began playing with me. After that, she had convolutions because the fever was really high and I told them please attend to my baby because she will die and they didn’t care. Two nurse came and they gave her two more Tylenols and she couldn’t open her teeth, but they gave her two Tylenol.”

“They say that the blood exam does not say if she had dengue or anything. But the symptoms made them think she had dengue, but they are not certain. They took x-rays and the x-ray didn’t show anything. They said that it was possible that she had a lung infection. They did three x-rays and they said that the x-rays were clean and I don’t know where they got that she had a lung infection. And now they are saying that the lung failed because of the infection. I saw that they only gave her Tylenol and didn’t give her anything for the fever or any antibiotic. I wondered but they only gave her Tylenol. Five Tylenol they gave her from Monday to Wednesday when she died. That’s not fear. I was telling them that she was ill…if they gave her something that made her condition worse I don’t know. I only took her to clinic because she didn’t want to eat and she had fever. And now she is dead.”

“Three Tylenol; three Tylenol in three days and then the last two when the little girl was dying. I told the nurses to attend to the little girl, she is ill…help her and please don’t kill her or else I am going to sue. But they didn’t pay me no mind.”
