City youth charged with multiple muggings

A young Belize City man has been charged with a string of violent robberies against women. Eighteen year old Kareem Smith appeared Tuesday before Magistrate Margaret McKenzie where he pled not guilty to three separate allegations of robbery, one count of burglary, and one count of wounding. The accusations against Smith date back to August nineteenth of this year when he allegedly attacked a woman on Albert Street and snatched her chain. On September twenty-ninth near the Belcan Bridge he is accused of punching a woman to the ground before stealing two chains and a bracelet. He allegedly snatched a cell phone on Mopan Street on November second and just this Sunday night he is said to have entered a house on Courtenay Crescent and made off with a tape deck and a hundred dollars in cash. Smith was remanded to prison and will reappear in court on November twenty-first.
