Just Us Inc., One of Seven Organizations to Receive U.S. Embassy Grant

Stephanie Betancourt

On the south side of Belize City, there is also a program that is presently working with at-risk youths to develop computer literacy and other skill sets that are necessary for employment.  Just Us Inc. has been tireless in its efforts to reach out to high school dropouts and give them a second chance.  Stephanie Betancourt explains how the funds will be used.

Stephanie Betancourt, Just Us Inc.

“We have been developing our program, our main program is IT and, you know, with IT you have to buy a lot of equipment and stuff like that.  The equipment isn’t cheap and so I think like the funding will help us to make the program, you know, bigger, help us to improve on what we’re doing.  We’re doing graphic designs, website development and now we want to do some programming, Python 3.0.  We want to teach students how to develop their own apps, you know, technology is the new way to go.  It’s how we think that we’re going to help young people, you know, especially our targets which are unemployed youths, some of them dropped out of school so we think that this is a way that we’re going to help them develop a skill and find a job and get into the job market.”

Other recipients include Belmopan Active Youth, Caracol Youth Development, the National Kriol Council, Pathlight International and YWCA.
