Belmopan Police Say Rape of Minor Not Suspected

Howell Gillett

The story of an alleged rape of a five year old Infant One student in Belmopan has aroused public sentiment. The incident allegedly happened last week, and the child’s mother has gone on the airwaves to bring attention to the matter. Naturally any allusion to such a heinous and unnatural crime has caused outrage in the community and a call for action by the Police. On Wednesday evening, officials from the Ministry of Education, Police from the Domestic Violence as well as the school’s administration met to discuss the report.  There hasn’t actually been any official comment by Police, since the investigation is ongoing and it is a sensitive situation. But today Officer Commanding Belmopan Superintendent Howell Gillett gave News Five an update. He told us that the medical tests are due back very soon, but at this point the Police are not at all convinced that there was any sexual assault of the minor.

Via Phone: Supt. Howell Gillett, Officer Commanding, Belmopan

“Yes a report was made, but what we have not established is whether it was a sexual assault upon this five year old boy. What I can positively tell you is that the Police in Belmopan has done its part. We have taken the child to seek medical attention. Also a swab was taken which we await the results of that, but it is not very clear at this point that yes he was sexually molested. I think that it was one of the media houses in Belmopan which on their own took it out of proportion and caused some people to be thinking that yes a sexual assault was committed upon this child. We have met with the parents and the teachers at the school to try and bring some closure to it. Sometime tomorrow we are expected to get the result of the swab test and that will clear up all doubts.”

“Sir at this time have you all been able to ascertain if this incident, if there was an incident, actually happened on school grounds?”

Via Phone: Supt. Howell Gillett

“No, that is not clear because our investigation is showing that when the child was picked up at school everything was okay. There was no complaint. But as I tried to allude to earlier, we are not clear that he was sexually molested. We are still trying to prove or disprove that. It is not our belief that he was sexually molested, but we will go by the facts.”

Gillett has promised an update on Friday when the results of the tests come in.

This is the most despicable asinine statement I have heard from a police officer. He states he cannot make a statement until the facts are in but he is convinced it is not raped? WTF!
Blame the victim and add insult to injury.
The problem of the police is timeless…they are incompetent, they act as judge jury and executioner and don’t do their job as they should.

Excusme but he did not maje any statement. He simpky mentioned that the results are not ckear enough for him to determain it is not or it is rape. Even if it a yes the police by all means have to do their jobs. You see….it is not the police that do wrong you know, it is our laws that are not sensible enough that we all get what we want. Not taking part gor popo cuase some, are reallyout of order but they do their jobs becuase if they don’t abide by their rules it is them that the juiry will attack at court. And many more criminals would be out there free of charge whit the officer who didn’t for his job right. In the case of this incident well they got to be cautious because an innocent person can be accused easily. At this point in time, they are doing investigations about where the incident happened. If it was at school or what. It could be a family member who did and they are accusing someone else. So let the police do their jobs and let us help instead of criticize them.
