Young entrepreneur gunned down near his home

Story PictureIn late November, he was featured On Channel Five’s morning show as an entrepreneur and the owner of Poor People’s Furniture—an upholstery and furniture business on the Southside of Belize City. He was a young man who said he wanted a positive lifestyle after his past experiences in gangs and violence. But shortly before eleven this morning, twenty-one year old Reynald Michael of Mex Avenue was gunned down just a few blocks away from his business and home. Reports are that Michael was riding home on his bicycle and at as he reached the corner of West Collet Canal Street and Young Lane, two men also on bicycles, approached and opened fire on him.

Michael received several shots to various parts of the body. But while he managed to flee some two hundred yards from his assailants, he collapsed face-down less than a block away from his home, at the mouth of the bridge on Mex Avenue. A short while later, Michael succumbed to the gunshots. His body was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. At the scene of the crime, the only trace of the murder victim was the Yankee’s tennis and the expended shells from discharged gun or guns used in the shooting. News Five also spoke with Michael’s mother, Marjorie, who told us that she believes justice will be served in the murder of her son. Police say they following all leads and are looking for two suspects connected to this latest homicide.
