Julio Santos facing 6 counts of Theft for missing BMA money

Story PictureWe reported at the top of the newscast that two had been arrested in the missing Treasury funds. And now there is finally an arrest in the case of the missing monies from the Western Border Management Agency in the Cayo District. This morning, thirty-eight year old Julio Santos was apprehended for six counts of Theft of some thirteen thousand plus dollars from the agency. According to police, Santos, a resident of Kennedy Street in Benque Viejo Town, was being monitored after the report of the missing monies was made on July sixteenth by General Manager, Gonzalo Rosado. Rosado told police that for a three-day period around mid-June, no deposits were made in the agencies account as required. Santos was subsequently dismissed. Acting Officer in Charge of the Benque Viejo Police, Inspector Dinsdale Thompson says it was not until after a thorough investigation by the police department that the arrest was made.

Insp. Dinsdale Thompson, Acting O.C., Benque Viejo Police (Via Phone)
“They have checked and found out that some thirteen thousand seven, hundred and fifty dollars and fifty cents from the Border Management Agent had gone missing. As a result we launched an investigation into the matter and have came up that we have one Julio Santos who we have charged. Because of the amount of money and the audit and other institutions had to go in and check out the finance, I Belize that’s why it was delayed.”

“What was he charged for sir and has he already been taken to court? If so, was he released on bail?”

Insp. Dinsdale Thompson
“No, we still have him in our custody. He has already been charged with sixth counts of Theft, which is the over thirteen thousand dollars that had gone missing. Court, no we have not taken him to court as yet because the magistrates are not available at this time nowhere in the Cayo district; they have a symposium I understood going on.”

Duane Moody
“So he will be taken to court tomorrow.”

Insp. Dinsdale Thompson
“If there is the availability of magistrates, he should. If not, there is another means that we will be working out in reference to his detention noh.”

Earlier today, his ministerial cousin Erwin Contreras told News Five that the law should take its course in this case and he has not interfered.
