Volleyball and Cycling with Veteran Sportscaster James Adderley

Good evening, I’m James Adderley and this is Sports Monday.

We lead today with the BDVA interoffice volleyball championship which took center stage at the Belize Auditorium Friday night. The Belize Defense Force went in with a big W over Belize Telemedia Limited in a 25-20, 21-25, 15-11 3 set series on Thursday night and were looking to close out the draw Friday night. However, B.T.L. comes out roaring as Juan Marin challenges Ernest Broaster at the net to come up with a big time point. Broaster comes back with a monster smash that B.T.L. can do nothing about. Nevertheless B.T.L. regains the lead when Otis Clother squeezes this one over the net. Meanwhile, B.D.F. is unabashed to demonstrate its power game as Oliver Longsworth comes up with this rough smash. It’s Marin again containing Broaster’s bomb with this 2 hand defensive stop. And Otis Clother displays his power game as B.T.L. takes set in 25-20 final score. In the 2nd set, the B.D.F. returns to championship form as Oliver Longsworth raises up. This nice return from Usher forces Rasheed Usher to touch the net for the turnover. Juan Marin keeps his team in the hunt going lefty to power past Ernest Broaster. But the B.D.F. team game kicks into high gear as they go on to take the 2nd set with 9 unanswered points for the 25-16 win.

In the 3rd set, B.T.L.’s Otis Clother gets 2 shots in a row to give his team a7-6 lead only to concede the point by fouling the net. Ernest Broaster then figs this ball out which leads to a long rally for the point as both teams battled down the home stretch. It’s the B.D.F. who eventually picks up the point as they go on to win Game III 15-10 and with that, sweep the series in 2 straight outings to take the title. We say congratulations to the B.D.F.

In cycling news, some 30 or so riders suited up for Class A Division of the Weekend Warriors 40 mile ride which traveled from Cotton Tree to Leslie’s Imports yesterday. Why the Class A riders can’t get footage is beyond my comprehension so let’s go to the trophies. Robert Mariano of Digicell took top honors in a time of 2 hrs 45 seconds. Mark Gentle of FT Williams took 2nd and Kent Bob Gabourel of Benny’s rounds out the top 3. The B Class level it was Ernest Bird Olivera of FT Williams in the winners’ circle in a time of 2:11:20. He beat out Santi Castillo who had to settle for 2nd. While Ryan Willoughby of Stationery House/Medina’s rounds out the top 3. Meanwhile, Ingmar Perrera posted a time of 1:42:1 to win the C Class 30 mile ride. Glenn Sheppard of Big Blade was the runner up and Manuel Esquiliano of Truckers finished 3rd in this class.

Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
