Security Guard Murdered In Morning Shooting on Sibun Street

It has been rather quiet over the past few days in the Old Capital…that was until this morning when the silence on the streets of the city was shattered by the blasts of gunfire. The bullets, at least six, we are told, all found their mark on a twenty-one-year-old resident of St. Martin De Porres Area. Corey Douglas Howard was ambushed on Sibun Street, a stone’s throw away from his workplace at KBH Security. The security officer had just recently started working with the security firm and by all accounts, Howard was senselessly shot and killed. The shooting occurred around seven-forty this morning and Howard was rushed to the K.H.M.H. and into immediate surgery. But, five hours later, he succumbed to his injuries. This afternoon, Police Press Officer Raphael Martinez, gave brief comments on the murder of Howard.

Raphael Martinez, Police Press Officer

Raphael Martinez

“At approximately seven-forty this morning, twenty-one year old Security Guard Corey Douglas Howard of a Belize City address was shot multiple times on Sibun Street as he headed to work. He was admitted to the K.H.M.H. undergoing surgery, but unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries at twelve-forty this afternoon. We want to send condolences to the family. Police have six recovered six expended nine millimeter shells from the scene and investigations continue. At this time, nobody has been detained and we cannot ascertain a motive for this senseless shooting.  In the past indeed, we’ve had several attempts at security officers for criminals to actually rid them of their weapon, their licensed firearms, to commit some criminal activities, so we are indeed looking at that area; however, we cannot ascertain whether or not that is the motive for this senseless shooting.”

“But did the victim have a weapon?”

Raphael Martinez

“I cannot ascertain that at this point.”
