…and Widespread Corruption at the Hospital

John Briceño

That wasn’t the fiery debate just yet…that came when Briceño went after former K.H.M.H. Director of Finance Carlos Perera. Perera was fired by the K.H.M.H. Board recently, following a series of allegations made against him during his time as finance director. The Speaker of the House took exception to the point being made, claiming that the hustling and corruption was a different matter than the deaths at the K.H.M.H.

John Briceño, Area Representative, Orange Walk Central

“Mr. Speaker the hustling was so bad that even with the fish they were hustling. Everybody know that orange Walk noh got sea, but yet Orange Walk was selling sea fish to the K.H.M.H. just because they were buying it from a well-connected U.D.P. lackey from Orange Walk, Mister Speaker. And when we spoke about that, both the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health promised to launch an investigation and to punish those that are doing these corrupt acts in the hospital yet nothing happened Mister Speaker, absolutely nothing. When we found out that mothers were being butchered in the Northern Regional Hospital, my colleague from Orange Walk East spoke about this here in the National Assembly Mister Speaker. Nothing happened, a simple cover up and nothing happened to address the suffering of these women in the Northern Regional Hospital. We go down south to the Southern Regional Hospital.

Michael Peyrefitte, Speaker of the House

“This is a different topic member…”

John Briceño

“It is Mister Speaker. I am pointing out how the hundreds of thousands of dollars are being wasted and are being hustling and they refuse to help these mothers mister speaker. Ten thousand dollars for a child? That is my point.”

Pablo Marin

Pablo Marin, Area Representative, Corozal Bay

“The reality Mister Speaker, what you listen right now about the member is that he couldn’t make his friend on the back say anything because he has a big load on the back about his hospital. That is one of them, but why don’t you tell the people that you cannot go back to Corozal because you were helping your son…dah noh your son? George Papas, dah noh yo son? He was paying and the people that were there said plain and straight that he will never win in Corozal and he is trying to do everything possible for him to look good and for the Prime Minister to fire me from the Ministry of Health.”
