P.M. Barrow on Friends of Conservation and Continued Chiquibul Incursions

Dean Barrow

Incursions along the western border continue unabated; Friends for Conservation and Development has in fact documented an increased number of incidents. Recently, nine dwellings constructed inside the Chiquibul National Park were detected as were survey lines five miles inside Belizean territory. Last week, a survey showed that the Southern Chiquibul River sub-basin had the greatest abundance and richness of macro-invertebrates signaling that legal and illegal gold mining in the Ceibo Chico and Ceibo Grande is degrading the water quality of the streams.  The reduction in water quality is caused by increased sedimentation and organic suspended solids in the water column.  Over the years, F.C.D. has clamored for assistance to better manage the area and to stop the illegal activities perpetuated inside the national park. Prime Minister Dean Barrow told the media on Friday help is in the pipeline.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“That’s a continuing problem which we continue to go at. There is clearly a need for increased collaboration of the B.D.F. with the FCD. Last year I had indicated that government was prepared to fund a number of new conservation posts; not one have been built. I asked the B.D.F. what has been taking so long. It appears there was some difficulty in coordinating with the FCD and in agreeing with the exact location for those sites. That has now been done. They will present me with a couple of bids in terms of getting the structures constructed. There are problems with getting the materials to site because of where the locations are. But I regret that it has taken so long. When we build the new conservation outposts, hopefully that will help, but it is a horrific situation in terms of simply not having the kind of resources including human resources that can see us prevent these things from happening. We just have to deal with what occurs on a step by step basis trying to do the best we can to reverse this process that has taken place and is taking place.”

This is the typical answer of a person who is impotent and incompetent wow what a pitiful answer I’ll tell you what to do mine the entire border 5 miles inside our border put signs if the come crossing the border and get blown up then that’s their problem mine the whole border and it cost you much less than what all your ministers steal in a month..

Very well put Rod. I love the idea!

  3. Carmen Carrillo says:

What does he mean when he says we do not have the human resources? Aren’t there enough people who want to join the B.D.F? Haven’t volunteers been to the border to show their solidarity? What Support has the prime minister given them? I have not seen any propaganda or announcements or newspaper adds that request for volunteers or, on a project that is directed to a step taken to protect our environment!

It is usual politician bs – look at your ministers stealing and working with criiminals and shut up: Belize need a prime minister – a person – who think of the people and not of his own pocket. Your government suck so very much with all these people stealing from the Belize people. You’re the biggest disappointment and should be ashamed!
