Year’s second publication of Belizean Journal released

Story PictureFor the second time this year, the Belizean Studies Journal has released a collection of research articles in a special issue publication. Entitled “Colonialism and Nature in Belize”, editors say the latest anthology contains papers that explore the country’s colonial roots, as well as writings that examine contemporary environmental politics of today. But according to the journal’s co-editor Yasmine Andrews, there is a distinct lack of Belizeans writing about Belize.

Yasmine Andrews, Co-Editor, Journal of Belizean Studies
?It?s critical that we have information on nature, especially since we do live in an environmental era. There is a gap of research conducted on natural resources and nature in Belize, especially since most of it is published outside of Belize. We tried to fill this need, and so what we did was contact a lot of international researchers and professors and have them contribute to this special issue. The topic relates to the looking at the legacies of our colonial past and how that translates into the interpretation and management of our natural resources in Belize.?

?It is very unfortunate that at this time and age that we still need to rely on foreigners and or international researchers to write about our own history, about our own environment, about our own issues of today, so we do encourage all Belizeans to contribute to what we have to offer her at the centre.?

Copies of the journal are on sale for fifteen dollars each at local book stores.
