Courts Awards Ten High School Awards

This morning at the Radisson, ten high school students from across the country were awarded four-year scholarships by Courts Belize Limited.  The financial assistance comes in time for the start of the new academic year which commences on Monday.  The initiative follows a review of the academic performance of the candidates, as well as their financial needs.  News Five’s Duane Moody was on hand for the ceremony.

“Courts has been doing this from the inception…probably since 1997 so over two hundred persons have been awarded with scholarships; however, we have been doing the ceremony on a larger scale for the past five to six years. And from them, I can recall that twenty-five recently are on the scholarship.”

“Tell us what all they get with this scholarship awarded?”

Kovenka Rodriguez-James

“It is a full four year scholarship that includes fees, tuition and books.”

The successful recipients spoke on how elated they were to have been awarded the four-year scholarship.

Adelita Carillo, Scholarship Recipient

“It is my privilege to be one of the few selected students to receive this scholarship to attend the high school of my choice. Coming from a large family, I knew I had to do my part to ensure that I become a productive citizen of the future. My dream is to become a doctor and a future role model for other students to show them that no matter what obstacles we may face; it is up to us to use it as our motivation to succeed.”

“It is a great pleasure to be part of this special event. Courts Company, proud sponsor of our scholarship, deserves more than just our applause, but our gratitude. Having an opportunity to become an educated person, I hope one day I could return in one way or the other what is being done for my education. I highly appreciate and will make Courts proud of having selected and awarding me this scholarship.”
