Belize Youth for Road Safety Launches Competition…

Zaire Garbutt

Members of the youth arm of the project, Belize Youth for Road Safety, were also presenters at the workshop held today. They have put together a commercial competition opened to all Belizeans that should focus on drink driving, speeding and distractive driving.

Zaire Garbutt, Belize Youth for Road Safety

“It’s a forty-five to sixty second commercial that they would have to prepare—animated or non-animated. Also we wouldn’t like any conversational type of commercial. So they would need to submit that on Facebook at the Belizean Youth for Road Safety page that we have. Also the topics will be against Drink Driving, Speeding and Distractive Driving.”

Duane Moody

“Now this comes timely with the road safety project, tell us about why it is important as youths to be a part of this?”

Eric Sanchez, Belize Youth for Road Safety

Eric Sanchez

“It is important as youths to be a part of this because primarily we want to reach out to the youths and we want all of them to know that we care for them and their input is duly cared for as well. So we are doing this commercial contest. We are giving away a thousand dollars cash prize, first place; five hundred dollars cash prize, second place; and three hundred dollars cash prize, third place. And because of the large sum of money that we are giving, we require that it is properly edited and you can use any amount of cast; it just has to be catchy and a Belizean-like theme in coherence with the September celebrations.”

Duane Moody

“Are there any other criteria that these videos have to satisfy?”

Zaire Garbutt

“Not necessarily, as long as they touch base on the topics that we previously identified. Also the deadline is September sixth so they need to get started and submit that as soon as possible.”
