…But His Driver is Busted for Weed
The driver for the Foreign Minister Sedi Elrington was busted at the U.D.P. Convention on Sunday by police who allegedly found him to be in possession of marijuana. This morning, thirty-six year old Dorain Avilez was before the court to answer to a single charge of Possession of a Controlled Drug. Avilez was arraigned and he quickly pleaded not guilty; his next court date is on September twenty fifth. Avilez was arrested when police searched him as he entered the ITVET compound at around five o’clock. The police claim they found the weed in the pocket of his pants, in a transparent plastic bag. He was detained and escorted to the Queen Street Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to seven point grams. Avilez was offered bail, but it came to the courts attention that he had a pending fine of two thousand nine hundred and ninety dollars for an ammunition conviction some years ago. After he settled that bill, he was able to post bail for the drug possession charge.
The Minister of Her Majesty’s Government Mr. Elrington is in good hands.
Great choice of employee Mr. Elrington.
ONLY the driver was smoking it, I repeat, ONLY the driver was smoking it.
Despicable
Not to worry Mr. Elrington will come to his defense. Keep watching charges will be dropped. I am taking bets, stay tuned, this will be gone by the time he gets back to court.
With all the cynicism about Government being bandied about, especially on this website, I, for one, am relieved to know that the driver of a prominent Minister could be and was indeed “busted for weed” and this at a UDP Convention? Of course, I feel that the whole “weed” thing (esp. consumption of small amounts) is a case of much ado about nothing when compared with “legal” drugs such as cigarette and alcohol, and Belize will hopefully soon address this discrepancy. But laws are laws, and they must be abided with.
And we pay this man to drive the Foreign Minister around. Ammunition, drugs . . . I guess that too is OK just like racketeering & medical fraud for the bearded one.
In USA marijuana is legal in many states. get real people. if it is legal in Belize there will be no more issues with it.
