Was Nunez Unfairly Detained by Police?

Charlys Nunez, who also goes by the name Ninja, is known for his dancing skills having competed in many of Channel Five’s entertainment shows such as Duets, Superstar and Masters of the Floor. Today, Nunez came to our studio on Coney Drive claiming he was wrongfully detained at the Raccoon Street Police Station for forty-eight hours without explanation. He says that police confiscated his motorcycle on Tuesday night, but on Wednesday when he went to the station to claim the cycle, he was instead taken into custody. The police would only say that his motorbike was under investigation. Nunez recounted for News Five the events leading up to his detention and subsequent release.

Charlys Nunez, Claims Wrongful Detention

“I park my cycle from five-thirty in the evening. Ina di night, life after ten, me and my gial gone buy dah the shop, dah di Chiney. When we di come back, some guys were hanging around my cycle from the Martin’s De Porres Area. The police officers dehn come from through ah alley; the bwai dehn run. When the bwai dehn run, I come. Me and my gial gone heng across the street. The officers dehn talk about fifteen minutes. Shots were fired on the back street; the officer noh move none at all. One of my friends come and tell me that the officers say dehn wah ker my cycle. I approach the officer and tell the officer, I am the owner of the cycle and what is the problem? Dehn tell me that the cycle is under investigation and for me to come with my papers to Raccoon Police Station. Me and my gial gone on Wednesday morning and I give them all the papers and everything weh dehn need for them to give me back my cycle.  When I gone talk to the sergeant, the sergeant say that they have to detain me. So I neva had no problem with that because I noh have nothing with nobody, I noh do nothing; I dah no criminal and everybody know that how I dah noh no kind of criminal. So they lock me up. They noh tell me I deh under investigation; they just tell me that they want talk to me. Dehn lock me up forty-eight hours and nobody come check on me and tell me nothing. I get released today. Dehn lock me up from Wednesday and I get released this morning. Dehn got me di clean up ina the station before I come out. Then I ask them for my cycle and dehn tell me I can’t get my cycle cause it is under some procedure. But I noh get charge, no nothing.”

“But why would they detain you? Did anyone tell you anything as to why they detained you?”

Charlys Nunez

“Dehn noh tell me nothing. Up to right now, I still noh know why dehn lock me up, why dehn ker my cycle. Up to right now. Yesterday, my gial come drop off my food for me. Ih meet Mister Grinage and ask Mister Grinage what is the situation with Charlys Nunez. Mister Grinage noh even know who dah Charlys Nunez. Today I get let goh and Mister Grinage noh even know how I look; he noh even know I own the cycle. This morning when dehn let me goh, dehn tell me make I come one o’clock to talk to Mister Grinage.
