PM Barrow Says Elrington’s Fugitive Status Isn’t GOB’s Concern…

Errol Elrington

The Prime Minister hosted a marathon press briefing today on the heels of a one hour televised interview on Sunday with banker Steve Duncan. PM Dean Barrow spoke on a long list of issues, but we start with his response to a question on Doctor Errol Elrington. Now, Wilfred ‘Sedi’ Elrington may be the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Attorney-General of Belize, but both his brother and nephew are fugitives from the U.S. being sought on serious criminal charges. The AG’s brother, Errol, is on the run from the U.S. after a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of racketeering and medical fraud. It is alleged that he defrauded Medicare and Medicaid almost half a million U.S. dollars, billing them for services he did not perform. And then there’s the AG’s nephew, Hubert E. Elrington. His alleged crimes are more violent in nature. He is wanted on a thirteen-count felony indictment after a violent armed home invasion on the Ohio State University Campus in 2007. It is also believed that he ran to Belize to escape justice and is still here. News Five has confirmed that Dr. Errol Elrington IS here. In fact, Prime Minister Dean Barrow knows the fugitive well. At a three hour press briefing in Belize City today, the PM told the media that Dr. Elrington’s problems with the US authorities, and the warrant for his arrest, is not the government of Belize’s concern.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

Dean Barrow

“Dr. Elrington I know I find or have found to be an extremely patriotic Belizean, an extremely likeable fellow…he always struck me as wanting to do good for people…and as honest. Now what sort of evidence US authorities might have I don’t know and I am not interested in finding out. If the United States wishes to extradite any Belizean citizen there is a treaty between our two countries that details the process that must be followed in order for this to be done. If such a request for extradition is ever made I this case by the United States authorities we will proceed in the way we always do in the cases or in the case of such requests.”

On Tuesday, attorney Hubert Elrington told News Five he cannot envision any situation where the extradition of Doctor Errol Elrington would be requested.

This PM is really out of touch with reality and full of it. No problem Mr. P.M, we will stand aside and look like we all did with Castro, Penner, and the rest of your forty thieves.

  2. Ali BaBarrow, sez it all says:

Is this a sick pm or what he is saying that he knows where this fugitive is and doesn’t care weather he is a criminal imagine that’s like saying if he was a rapist he doesn’t care not wonder this country is in the state it’s in our mo doesn’t care if we have criminals walking around or not what a sick pm we have I hope the us ambassador is reading this to see that this pm is harbouring fugitives from the us and daring them to try and do anything about it wow wow wow.

What, tell me I am not reading what this PM said. Does this PM understand if the US were to say the needs of Belize is not their problem, this country would go needy for basic needs, such as vehicles for the military, etc.

When is a crime a crime for this PM. He sees evil and turn his face away. He protects those close to him no matter what. This PM has no balls, he is cannot stand up and make the right decisions to save his life. This country is a joke.

  5. H@tari says:

The arrogance of this dunce! We take the US $$, sign the treaties, and then go tell them to piss off. Corruption knows no bounds in Belize. Looks like we are destined to be a Banana Republic for ever.

Thank God for the P M who does not let others scare him,and he also use his own God given brain for himself. Belizean wake up put politics aside and see your country for yourself. If you think the people are hungry now, wait for pup to take over have you already forgotten who was leaving the country with a bagful of Belize money,or who first sold Belize passports to foreighners. Pup want tobe owned by big brother so they can continue to get charity.

For once I thought that Musa was so corrupted while in place as PM but hey this barrow has passed the margin of what shame, ignorance, corrupted and blatant thief can be. This is the worst PM we’ve had, mein I miss those days when HON. PRICE WOULD STOP SHAKE YOUR HAND AND DRIVE BY WITH OUT BEING PREJUDICE REGARDLESS IF YOU WERE A KID OR A GROWN UP, POOR OR RICH. but now a days these scums in gov. really shake your hand only when they are running for politics and when they are in place they forget that the humble poor Belizeans are those that put the ham on their plate while the poor strive everyday to get the corn tortilla on his table with some beans.
