FFB President Comments On Belize’s Performance In UNCAF

F.F.B. President Ruperto Vicente says that FIFA has already approved the plan which will focus on youths and their coaches. It’s a long term project, but the road to the World Cup has to start somewhere. Currently Belize’s Under-twenty selection is playing in the UNCAF championships in El Salvador and has lost the first two games badly. For Vicente that is not a reason to lament, but is vindication of the F.F.B.’s new focus on youth selections.

Ruperto Vicente, President, Football Federation of Belize

Ruperto Vicente

“We’re playing against all the countries in Central America. We’ve played two games. We’ve gone up against El Salvador. El Salvador beat our team six goals to nil. We played Guatemala and Guatemala beat us four nil yesterday. Yes our team is not doing well, but the experience is good for them. We are losing against our counterparts in the youth tournaments but in the senior tournaments we are matching up against them. And the reason we are behind in our youth tournaments is because we have not had any youth development programs. We are putting those in place so what we’re seeing out there are our youths participating. We are now preparing the U-fifteen females to go to Cayman Islands in August, and so we are investing in our youths. Yes, they are getting a beating, but they are developing and they are also gaining experience, and our coaches are growing along with them as well, because we are not using international coaches, we are using our local coaches to coach our youth teams. We are starting from scratch, and we have to start now. We cannot wait any longer. You know, we are hoping that in the next ten years Belize will become competitive as a result of the investment that we are doing now. So we must invest in our young players and we must invest in our coaches so that our coaches become better.”

The under-twenty selection has four games remaining in El Salvador.

Oh yes, what you put in is what you will get out, in direct proportions, each and every time. If anyone thought that after decades of mismanagement and hanky-panky under Chimilio, Ruperto was going to come in and work wonders with a broken and defunct football system, they had better think again.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step…..and if not now, when?
By the way, our youths need and deserve, way more support than they are getting at home when you consider the licking, they are taking on the road.

    Mr. Vicente,

For your information we played against Nicaragua…..I wonder how a FFB President doesn’t know with whom we played????????????

That means that you are not interested in our football rather than getting your pocket filled with money…………….SHAME ON YOU.

Belize have been sending youth team abroad for more than a decade, every time the officials comment was experience.well its time to put experience aside and start paying attention to what Panama, costa Rica and Honduras are doing to develop their youths for world class level. if there are no proper fundamentals being thought to kids from 5 yrs ,it wil continue to be a struggle to get a youth team together without the basics. the coaches first have to be trained, its not about recruiting exfootball players who themselves never learned football properly, that is eg. playing with both feet,, trapping the ball , accurate passing, moving with the ball heads up,proper marking ,motivation, fairplay, respect for players and officials etc. we will just be throwing away money if we dont invest in doing it right.. Belize have been playing football before alot of other countries ,yet we have not made much progress , we continue to depend on natural talents rather than investing in academies .Thank you.

I think these people who run football in Belize are clueless , and are there for one reason , to full their pockets . just like everyone who tries to get a high position in Belize. when Belize qualify for the Gold Cup that create a false reality. They should focus on how the players play. The limitations of the players were clarely exposed. Look at the other countries and watch the style and grace with how they handle the ball, the technical ability. this is only because they have been trained from a really young age.Belize needs someone who knows the sport and can oversee the whole football program. They need to start a U10 development program with people who can properly teach and develop youths ,and grow from there. there is enogh money from FIFA and the goverment should help. It’s a long term program that have to be given a chance.

Its indeed disturbing that Ruperto does not know with whom we played yesterday. Having a competent general secretary would help him greatly in knowing what he is saying. Am a person that follows up FFB closely and clearly remember that the first press conference Ruperto gave he mentioned that football in Belize was too big for only two people to run (Bertie & Maggie), however he is now doing the same thing after only two years in office. Where are your Executives members Ruperto? Did you finally manage to suspend all of them after several attempts?
