B.T.B. donates to fire victims in San Pedro

Earlier this month, there was a massive fire on San Pedro, in the Boca Del Rio area of the island. The inferno gutted up to eight structures within three properties and displaced some sixty-six residents—thirty-two of which are school-aged minors. Various organizations along with the San Pedro Town Council have been aiding the families with shelter and basic necessities. On Thursday, area representative and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation, Manuel Heredia Junior, presented a cheque of five thousand dollars to the Belize Red Cross San Pedro Branch to assist in relief efforts for those affected by the fire. Also provided were boxes of clothing, food items and toiletries on behalf of the Belize Tourism Board. Since the disaster, residents and businesses on the island have also been assisting the affected families. Over sixteen families, including children, were uprooted by the fire and those who would wish to contribute are encouraged to contact the Belize Red Cross at 207-3319.
