Robbers Steal Security Guard’s Gun on Oleander Street

Ismael Westby

A daring mid-morning robbery during which a Bowen & Bowen delivery truck was held up in the Lake Independence Area, but instead of money, the robbers went after the service weapon of the security escort.  Shortly before eleven o’clock, a routine delivery came under assault when a gunman emerged on the scene and jacked the employees.  The incident occurred near Haulze and Oleander streets, a known hotspot for gang activity.  Despite being escorted by personnel from Fort Point Security, the robbers were able to get away with a thirty-two millimeter handgun.  Quick police response led to the apprehension and detention of one of the culprits and the recovery of the handgun along with five live rounds.

Sgt. Ismael Westby, NCO-CIB, Precinct 3, Belize City Police

“At about ten-thirty a.m. police responded to a call in respect to a robbery that was occurring at a Chinese establishment, namely Number Eleven, which is located on Oleander Street in the Saint Martin’s De Porres area and upon arrival there, police met with a security guard for the Fort Point Security company, who reported that whilst doing guard duties for a Bowen & Bowen delivery truck comprises of three other persons and a security who was traveling along with the security in a separate vehicle, also attached to Bowen & Bowen.  Whilst at the yard of the establishment, doing the delivery and him doing the guard, he was approached by a male person who came running through the establishment gate of the yard and he was approached with what he believed is a gun, a chrome-colored gun which was placed on his face and as a result he was searched and relieved of his nine millimeter pistol which is the property of the security company.”

No money was reported stolen and a police investigation continues.
