Two Men shot Down in Belize City

The gun violence continued on Thursday night when at around eight forty-five shots rang out on the usually quiet Lizarraga Avenue in the King’s Park Area. Neighbours told News Five they heard as many as ten shots. When it was done, forty-year old Darryl Mayen lay on the ground bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds to the right leg, while seventy-three year old Godfrey Jones received wounds to his knees. According to Police, both men, who reside on Teacher Street in West Landivar, were socializing with Christopher Mayen on this porch in front of his residence on Lizarraga Avenue. Two men entered the yard and started firing at the group of men, wounding Darryl Mayen and Godfrey Jones. One of the men is said to be of fair complexion, his face covered in a white shirt, and the other of Creole descent.

Darryl Mayen is no stranger to bullets or to Police. In 2012 he was shot in the right shoulder as he and his brother Anthony exited the Tropicana nightclub. Anthony was shot three times and died on the spot.

Police transported Mayen and Jones to the KHMH, where they are both listed in stable condition.
