Fire Department Confirms Arson As Motive In Kimmies Tragedy

Earlier in the newscast we reported on a fire in Hattieville, but there is a development in respect of another blaze which totally destroyed a bar and a business in the City on June twenty-third in the Newtown Barracks area. A young woman, Jacqueline Arteaga, was tragically killed in that inferno; she was pregnant and left behind three children.  Fire officials confirmed today that the blaze was a case of arson.

“That fire yes indeed originated on the lower flat, on the lower east section of the building, the cause of the fire is incendiary and the information have been passed to the police who are continuing their investigation into that fire. In the history of Belize that is by no means the worst fire in the city. On deployment, we have a standing operational procedure that the first truck that arrives on the scene starts advancing to the fire and deals with the fire. The second truck on scene is always the backup truck that seeks supplementary supply from an open source and relays water to the scene. In the event that took place when they arrived based on the proximity of the structures and the size and age of the building. The initial truck with a tank of water would not have been able to hold a fire of that magnitude. Additional resources on scene supplemented the first arrival unit and  eventually the fire was brought under control and extinguished. OUT 12:19

No one has been charged for the Newtown Barracks fire and police are now criminally investigating the arson.
