Motorcyclist killed in Carmelita accident

A Los Lagos businessman is detained pending the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions after he knocked down a man on a motorcycle in Orange Walk. Forty-four-year-old Rolando Silva was allegedly overtaking a vehicle near the Tower Hill junction when he slammed head-on into a motorcycle being driven by thirty-two-year-old Marvin Tillett. The incident happened at twelve fifty-five a.m., and Tillett is said to have died instantly. Police have taken blood alcohol samples from both persons and today Northern Zone Commander Senior Superintendent Joseph Myvette says they may be levying charges very soon.

“Police learned that one Marvin Tillett, thirty-two years of Trinidad Village, was riding a motorbike from a north to south direction and after passing the BSI junction, he collided into a white Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by Rolando Silva which was coming in the opposite direction. As a consequence, Mister Tillett sustained severe head and body injuries and is believed to have died on the spot. The helmet for the cycle was found a few yards behind the vehicle while the cycle was some seventy-one feet from the pickup. The driver of the pickup, Rolando Silva, is detained. Blood samples were taken from both Mister Silva and the deceased, Marvin Tillett. We have also submitted the evidence we have in relation to that matter to the D.P.P. pending directive.”
