1 man dead and a minor critically injured in a hit and run in PG

Ernel Dominguez

A hit and run accident in the Toledo District has left one man dead and a minor critically injured.  Shortly after nine o’clock on Saturday night, twenty-four-year-old Francisco Coy and a child were riding along the Southern Highway when they were hit from behind by an unknown vehicle.  The driver did not stop to render assistance and by the time police responded to the scene and transported the victims to Punta Gorda Town Coy had already succumbed to his injuries.  While an investigation remains ongoing, the public is being asked to come forward with any information that may assist in identifying the vehicle and its driver.

Via Phone: Inspector Ernel Dominguez, Deputy O.C., Punta Gorda Police

“Sometime after nine-twenty p.m. on July sixth, 2014, acting upon information received, the police visited an area between mile seven and eight on the Southern Highway in the vicinity of Machaca Outreach Center’s main entrance.  Found in the area, on the left hand side of the road was what appeared to be the body of a male of Maya Indian descent, male person lying in a drain, lifeless.  Further police investigation revealed that sometime around 9 p.m. the individual or the deceased person, along with a minor were riding on separate bicycles from the direction of Jacintoville towards the area of Dump when they were allegedly knocked down from behind by an unknown vehicle.  Both persons were thereafter transported to the Punta Gorda Hospital where one Francisco Coy, twenty-four-years-old, resident of the Emory Grove area was pronounced dead.  The minor remains in a stable condition at the Punta Gorda Town Hospital.  Police investigation continues and we are looking for a vehicle that might be involved in this accident.  We cannot give the description because we are not certain on that, however, police investigation continues into this incident.”
