Final report on drowned Escuela students still pending

E’ Jahmor Lopez

On April fourth, two students of Escuela Secundaria Tecnica Mexico—Anahi Zepeda and Edgar Puck—drowned on a school trip. They were part of a group which had visited the Che Chem Ha Maya Site. On the way back the students stopped by the low-lying bridge in San Ignacio, allegedly to wash up, and minutes after, Zepeda and Puck were dead. An investigation was commenced on Monday, April seventh, to get to the bottom of the tragic incident. We’ve been checking back periodically for updates, and tonight we can report that there are still none. We understand that teachers are still being questions and reports will then be compiled and scrutinized to determine who is responsible. E’Jahmor Lopez is Corozal’s Education Center Manager, and he told News Five that he expects a finished report soon.

“I know that when last we met with the Board Chair, when last we spoke, when we did the interview, they were still doing their own investigation. I know last time when we had discussed it, you had said time is going and I wanted to point out to you that it was during the Easter Holiday beucase the incident had happened just before the Easter break and by law, teachers are afforded their holiday. And you might say, well it is something that is pressing, but again this is in the hands of the board and they felt that you know what, we are going to wait until after the Easter break to go full force in dealing with it and to the best of my knowledge that is what they are doing. And so I believe after teachers day when we have completed all of our activities for education showcase; that I will be able to update you after discussing it with the Board Chair.”
