Will the Prime Minister also be subpoenaed in Penner case?

Kareem Musa

And finally where COLA and Elvin Penner are concerned, today it is clear that all legal avenues are being pursued, or at least contemplated. It’s even possible, according to the claimants, that if all else fails you may eventually see Prime Minister Dean Barrow on the witness stand. That’s probably unlikely, but as we said, all things are being contemplated.

Kareem Musa, Attorney for Private Prosecution

“There is provision in the District Courts Act to subpoena witnesses who are in possession of materials. That is an avenue also that we are exploring. There are individuals including the Minister of Immigration…the Prime Minister has said that he has seen certain things which led him to dismiss Elvin Penner. We would want those individuals to come to court, and there is provision to subpoena those individuals under the District Courts Act to come to court and provide that evidence. If it is that it is not coming in the form of the evidence from the DPP or the Commissioner, because we need to see what is there first. If there is something lacking, then we need to look into our records and our archives to see who has said what. The Minister of Immigration said that the nationality file is missing, casually said that. He needs to come and say who took it out.”

“Are you prepared to go that far to subpoena the Prime Minister?”

Kareem Musa

“Absolutely…absolutely! He is a key witness man.”

Attorney Kareem Musa has expressed that with the blocks in the way, it is very likely he will ask for an adjournment on May twenty-ninth.
