Sand Hill resident is arraigned for a second time for the murder of his brother

Edward Cabanas

Twenty-one year old Edward Cabanas was set free on March twenty-fifth for the stabbing death of his brother, but tonight, is once again on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being rearrested and charged a second time for the murder.  Cabanas is accused of killing his sibling in December 2012 at their residence in Sand Hill Village.  Brandon Cabanas was mortally injured during an incident in which it is alleged that his younger brother inflicted stab wounds to his left and right thighs.  This morning, Edward appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Hettie Mae Stewart where he was read a single count of murder.  Before being indicted today, Edward told the court that he had already been freed of the charge.  In response, Magistrate Stewart informed him that the charge is being levied yet again.  It is unclear what precipitated the incident which resulted in the death of Brandon at the hands of his sibling.
