A National Transportation Master Plan is unveiled

Rene Montero

A collaborative effort between the Government of Belize and South Korea has resulted in the unveiling of a National Transportation Master Plan.  Through a Knowledge Sharing Program established by both countries, Belize is benefiting from the technical expertise of South Korea in developing a robust and sustainable strategy for transportation.  The master plan was unveiled today at the Radisson before an audience of government officials.

Rene Montero, Minister of Works and Transport

“The National Transportation Master Plan being presented today will allow flexibility and certainly provide a development plan for the transport sector which harmonizes with our medium term development plan and Horizon 2030.”

Joy Grant

Joy Grant, Minister of Energy, Science and Technology and Public Utilities

“The Government of Belize in late 2012 requested the assistance of the Republic of Korea through its KSP program to articulate Belize’s first national transportation master plan.  Korea, as you know, is one of the global leaders in designing transportation systems, as well as a global model in accelerated and sustained development.  Thus we have much to learn from their experience.  This overall, is the mandate and principal objective of the KSP program.  We are confident that this plan, upon its consideration and implementation has the potential to transform Belize’s development through investments in infrastructure, logistic improvements and improved service delivery.  As we work towards the completion of our discussions and negotiations of a mutually satisfactory arrangement, our thanks go out to all of you for hosting our delegations in Korea and for your generosity.”

No master plan will work in Belize, Political interferences too great. Symbiotic relations between stake holders and politicians are too good. Politicians give these stake holders lucrative contracts in exchange for transporting supporters during campaigning.

lower the fuel tax, that should be all the “Master Trarsport Plan” should say. 4 words, did we really need to get the Koreans in to say it.
