D.P.P. enters nolle prosequi motion in Treasury theft

Two people accused of ripping off the Treasury Department walked out of court as free citizens after the charges against them were withdrawn. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has entered a nolle prosequi motion in connection with charges of theft against Jeffrey Reneau and Bernadette Saldivar. The two were arrested by police after officials of the Treasury reported that in March 2003, Reneau had deposited two cheques valued at more than twelve thousand dollars. Investigations later revealed that the Bank of America documents that Reneau had presented were not genuine and Saldivar was singled out as an accomplice. However, following the D.P.P.’s motion today, Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh had no choice but to order the accused released.
