Easter Tips by police for Rural Belize District

Christopher Noble

As we’ve done all this week, News Five has been providing tips to all residents on security and safety do’s and don’ts this Easter Weekend. Rural Executive Officer, Assistant Superintendent Christopher Noble has had his hands full in recent weeks, with everything from fatal road traffic accidents to a man-eating crocodile. Like his colleagues we’ve spoken to, Noble today paid special attention to drinking and driving.

ASP Christopher Noble, Rural Executive Officer, Police Department

“With the Easter weekend upon us we are asking that drivers be cognizant of what they are doing on the highway. The major highways, the minor highways…everything that you’re doing when you’re driving…drinking and driving certainly do not mix…it is a bad combination. We’ve learned that. Unfortunately there are persons who have learned it, but the lessons affect a wide cross-section of people. We saw that in some of our more recent incidents, and there are incidents that we believe could have been prevented. Some level of care was not done, exercising the care, and you have loss of life. For this weekend you know that with the heat a lot of people will be looking for the waterways. We ask that you be careful. If you have children with you ensure that the children are within sight. If you are going to be consuming alcohol or anything that will diminish your capabilities, first and foremost ensure that the children are safe…that is to say deal with the children, and possibly deal with your entertainment purpose after. If you are on the highways, seatbelts are there in the vehicles…we need to start using them, and we need to enforce using them. We know that there are going to be a large number of vehicular checkpoints and Police and other agencies involved will be at these checks…so for persons to be patient for us, yes…but for the persons who are going to be committing these offences, there’s only one way to go with that – you will be going to court.”

So stay safe this weekend, don’t drink and drive, monitor your children if they are swimming and importantly, use seatbelts you are traveling on the highways and elsewhere.

  1. Been There and Done That says:

    Easter tip from me.

Stay home and your house will not be burglarized, you will not be murdered on the street and no drunk drivers or police will crash you and maim or kill you.

I know, Been There and Done That.
