Deceased homeless amputee was 67 year old Gilbert Domingo

Around midday on Tuesday, the body of a homeless amputee was carted off to the morgue from the sidewalk at Mule Park in the downtown area of the City. His name may have been unknown to many but he was a constant on Albert Street moving around in his wheelchair. The homeless man passed away while the area was abuzz with activity of the lunch hour, but even as he sought help, no one assisted him. Very few details were available on Tuesday about his family, but after viewing our story, some members came forward and identified him as a former driver from down south, sixty-seven year old Gilbert Domingo. According to his relatives who reside in the City, Domingo became addicted to drugs and chose to live on the streets, despite being offered a home. They also clarified that Domingo had a wife and children living in the south as well as in the United States. His sister, Rhona Young, says that despite a public plea by a “Good Samaritan,” they are not requesting donations for his funeral expenses.

Rhona Young, Sister of Deceased

Rhona Young

“He has his family. I am one of the sisters. The other one is Linda Elorine, Herman (the brother). He choose to be out there because that is the way that he wanted to live, but we also helped taking care of him and would always assist him in everything. He wanted to do that because what he does, everybody see him out there—he was a crack-head; he had his addiction and that is the reason he was out there. But someone was on the news talking that he was his nephew. I don’t really know the person, but the family, the immediate family that I am talking about—the names that I had called—we are the ones that will be taking care of the burial.”

“The general public does not need to assist with any kind of donation or anything for him.”

Rhona Young

“No, we are going to be taking care of the responsibility.”

“Does he have any kids?”

Rhona Young

“Yes he has three kids—a son by the name of Victor Domingo in Stann Creek and Debora Domingo, she is in the U.S.A. and also Denise Domingo in the military in the U.S.A. also. And then his wife is in Silk Grass, Gwendolyn Domingo.”
