Mandamus Update: P.U.P. Leader says he will do what he has to

Allen Whylie

Today, the People’s United Party won a significant victory in Supreme Court, a victory which injected at least a spark of life into a dead recall petition. But that’s only one flank of a full on assault against disgraced politician Elvin Penner. In March, the P.U.P. was also successful in getting Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin to direct Commissioner of Police Allen Whylie to criminally investigate Penner. That investigation allegedly commenced, but five weeks later there is nothing to show for it. In fact, for all intents and purposes, any investigation…such as it was…seems to be dead in the political waters. It’s a matter which is frustrating P.U.P. Leader Francis Fonseca. He says that while the party doesn’t want to start contempt proceedings against Commissioner Whylie…he will do it if he has to.

Francis Fonseca

“We are deeply concerned that despite the order of the court, despite the ruling by the Chief Justice of Belize, there does not appear to us to have been any effective, if you like, compliance with that order. We have heard that investigations have been taking place. We have even heard that investigations have been concluded. But it is very unclear what those investigations really amounted to and what has been provided to the Director of Public Prosecutions. So we remain very concerned about that matter. We have on the one hand the Commissioner of Police saying that he has completed the investigation. The reports we are getting from the Director of Public Prosecutions is that that has not been satisfactorily done. As I have consistently said, it is not our desire to find the Commissioner in contempt, and that certainly is an option which we would only exercise as a last resort, and we certainly hope that that does not have to happen, but certainly if a sufficient period of time elapses and it is clear to all concerned that there has been no advance on this issue, then we will certainly have to consider, based on our lawyer’s advice, whether or not we should go back to the Chief Justice to say sir, you have given a directive, you have given an order, and in our view that order has not been effectively complied with.”

” We have heard that investigations have been taking place. We have even heard that investigations have been concluded. ”

We all should understand that Belize is known to do half-@$$ jobs. That investigation is done in such a way Elvin Penner will walk free or get a slap on the wrist.

  2. Rod says:

If you can’t do it pup then I will personally start a lawsuit against this corrupt commissioner and pm they will both have to go to court then I’ll get 20 more people to haul them both to court so that they live in court until they are eighter locked up or broke.

  3. CEO says:

Do not stop until the crooks know that they also need to obey the law.

Regarding the squatters they need to go. They did what was wrong and doing the wrong thing for 10 or 15 years does not make it correct.
