Association says it has the support from PSU and NTUCB

Hortence Humes

President of the association, Hortence Humes, says that they have presented the matter to the Public Service Union, as well as the National Trade Union Congress.  She says that they have the full support of both unions.

Hortence Humes, President, Pharmacists Association of Belize

“From the union is that when we took the matter to the Public Service Union and to the National Trade Union Congress of Belize, it was the way how the post was created, the consultation and that is a public service matter for the Ministry of Health.  And the union saw it that yes it could be a labor dispute for the pharmacy association and one of the things is that because they are under the Essential Services Act, the union is taking it that yes we are telling you that we have supported the association.  We agree with what why it is so important to how you appoint a Director of Drug Inspectorate.  So what they are doing is that they send a letter to the Ministry of Health, addressed to Dr. Allen stating that all of these have our support and that we are giving you notice that we will file a labor dispute under the Essential Services Act for the pharmacist and it will be a…  We have to go out and educate our people to get the support from the membership of the Public Service Union which we have already began and we are going and asking… We have the support from the whole pharmacy association, public and government sector because if you know that the association covers both public and private sector.  It’s just like that nurses association.  So that’s where we are going with it.”

The Pharmacists Association made its official position known to the Ministry of Health in a letter date April third, 2014. Our response which called for rescinding of the contract for the current Director of Drug Inspectorate by April seventh, 2014, has not been acknowledged.
