5 year old schoolboy is crushed to death by a forklift in Spanish Lookout

There is another tragic story to report tonight. A five year old boy, Kenton Kerr Neilson, was crushed to death when a forklift ran over him. The incident happened early this afternoon in Spanish Lookout, Cayo District. The school-aged boy fell from the heavy-duty machine which was driven at the time by thirty-two year old Elias Jacobs, an employee of Reimer’s Service Center, which is owned by the boy’s father. Neilson died on arrival at the Western Regional Hospital and at news time tonight, Jacobs is providing a statement to the San Ignacio Police Station.

“Police visited the central road in Spanish Lookout Community where they saw a yellow in color forklift machine parked in the compound of Reimer’s Service Center. Inside it a red substance believed to be blood was seen; that is when one Elias Jacobs, thirty-two year old Belizean resident of Spanish Lookout Area reported that around one-thirty p.m., he was onboard of the said forklift when two boys joined him for the ride. This would be two minor, the son of the owner of the establishment, and in doing so, one of the youths dropped from the forklift machine and he end up running over the child. As a result the child was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival sometime around two-thirty p.m. The name of the child is Kenton Kerr Neilson, five years old.”

“What is it believed happened here? Was it negligence on the part of the driver of the forklift?”

“Well at this moment, statements are being recorded. Since the incident just happened, I cannot really comment because I have not gone through whatever has been obtained by the police, but the investigation is being carried out as we speak. The driver of the forklift is presently at the San Ignacio Police Station being interviewed.”

 

Jacobs will be served with a notice of intended prosecution.
