$29 Million in marijuana goes up in flames by the B.D.F. and U.S. forces

Twenty-nine million dollars….that’s the value of marijuana that went up in smoke last month. While the destruction of the marijuana happened since then, it is only now that it is being reported. The U.S. Embassy Military Liaison Office in Belmopan says that a joint military operation between Belize and the United States resulted in the destruction of thirty-four marijuana fields, costing local dealers a staggering twenty-nine million dollars in losses. The exercise, launched in mid-March and led by Joint Task Force-Bravo and B.D.F. personnel, saw the torching of almost fifty-seven thousand, two hundred and eighty-three mature cannabis plants.  With flight support and aerial survey provided by the Aviation Regiment, B.D.F. and police on the ground were also able to locate and destroy twenty-five pounds of marijuana seeds.  While no arrests have been reported, the operation paves the way for future drug interdiction operations between the two countries.  According to U.S. Army Captain Fernando Martinez, (Quote) “In the small picture, we destroyed some drugs, but in the big picture, we did so much more.  I got to work with soldiers that I worked with on previous missions, so we knew each other and the tactics, techniques and procedures needed.  I think the missions we have done with Belize have really helped build a strong partnership that will pay big dividends in the future. (Unquote)  The operation was conducted during a brief training exercise involving B.D.F., Coast Guard Seals and the police department.

They burning marijuana in Belize but they making it legal in the states how stupid Belizean could be

  2. Robs says:

This doesn’t make sense, weed is legal in a lot of US states. will pretty much be legal in the entire US shortly yet belizeans allow them to come down here and destroy our weed fields? WTF

  3. bzean says:

They have to destroy it here so it doesn’t become competition for them out there.

  4. Uncle Benji says:

Aah, how we have become American stooges. It is crying shame to see, hear or read the destruction of Marijuana plants.

Big American drug making companies has brainwashed us into believing that Marijuana is bad. Yes, it is bad……………..for their profits.

Marijuana has many medicinal benefits; but I guess it is more important to kiss the Gringos asses. My Belize, I weep for the loss of our dignity.

32 years of as an independent nation, and we are bowing down to the meddling Gringos. Wake up Belize.

Do we not know that Belizeans living in the USA are so loved, that Americans treat them simply as third world niggers. But, here in Belize…………… we adore the white man. Yes master, I will burn my fields, kill my parents and rape my sisters. I just want to make you happy master.

  6. MOSES x says:

The irony here is that marijuana is legal in some states and the profits are in the billions. I understand that an ounce goes upward of $500. Belize could use the money. I wonder if the US will invite BDF to participate in raids in Texas; they work so well together.

I urge the Belizean government to legalize marijuana for export to the states where it is legal. Free trade agreement (NAFTA) in this way the Belizean government can afford to pay for social services housing, education, food, etc..

  7. CEO says:

A good job but in the grand scheme of things this has very little or no effect on our problems! Especially because that weed was intended for the US market no doubt.

The criminal actions of our government is much more detrimental to our society and affects way more the common man. The crime rate is another serious factor that detracts from the quality of life.

I do not smoke or drink and wish all the means of getting high would reduce or go away but I am just calling it the way it is! I like Gerald’s comment above!

  8. punkgial says:

If they legalize weed the corrupted government still will not use the profit wisely just like how they do with the profit from the oil,the profit supposed to go for education, health care and social services but it goes in the politician off shore bank accounts.

  9. Real eyes realize real lies says:

Aye Belizeans are so quick to sit, roll over and play dead. Just because they provide some police trucks and boats?! Its completely wrong for Belize to be spending their time and effort in fighting poor marijuana planters just so US marijuana industry can flourish and in turn the profits be used for military operations. Instead Belize should be spending their time and effort in fighting real dangerous drugs such as cocaine, crack, heroin and crystal meth also fighting so illegal weapons from entering our beautiful country and communities. Wake up Belize!!!
