PM weighs in on the arraignment of Penner

Elvin Penner

Prime Minister Dean Barrow also spoke on this morning’s arraignment of his former cabinet minister and Cayo Northeast Area Rep., Elvin Penner. He told the media that in his estimation, the evidence to prove legal guilt against the disgraced and distanced former minister of state isn’t there.

“The matter is before the courts; I won’t comment. Justice will take its course.”

“However, just speaking in very general terms about a person who was elected under the U.D.P. and who served in the cabinet under you facing criminal charges. You would think under objective circumstances it would bring shame.”

Dean Barrow

“Well it is very sad that it has come to this but as I say, so it is and let us just now wait on the results of the trial.”

Reporter

“With the distance that you as leader and your party has generated from Mister Penner, is it something that you regret that he is being charged?”

“Look, common humanity dictates that we don’t rejoice to see anyone brought low, but the fact is that as prime minister, I did what the circumstances require me to do; thereafter, all that has occurred is in consequence of societal pressure, in consequence of public opinion, in consequence of the other authorities doing their work. I will repeat that while I am saddened by the spectacle of a former minister of government being in the dock, what it is is what it is. I will hold my tongue hereafter until we see what the results are.”

Reporter

“Have you revised your opinion that he did or did not commit a criminal offense? You held very firmly at the outset that no criminal offense was committed.”

Dean Barrow

“No, no. What I said was that there is a huge difference between factual guilt and legal guilt. And that, in terms of the evidence necessary to in fact prove legal guilt, I didn’t think it was available. It may well be that events will prove me wrong; again we simply have to wait and see how the course of the trial develops.”

You should be be locked up also for aiding and abetting a criminal you mr pm and all your other ministers including Castro. In fact I think am going to bring a lawsuit myself against all of you nothing but a bunch of thieves.

  2. Rod says:

Now what about Castro why only the white man is going to court Castro did even worse why is he not being investigated

  3. CEO says:

I know it is hard to see a friend go down but Barrow is not going through this because he is just simply doing the right thing. He was forced to, and it is also politically expedient for him to do this. If he ignored the public outcry and the obvious lawless behavior of Penner any longer he too would have all been pained with the same brush.

Clear the Land might be having nightmares now too!

My comments are not political because regardless of the color of the flag you wave you should never do the things Penner is accused of and the things the evidence point to.

  4. Rod says:

Cola now you need to bring lawsuits against Castro and hulse for thief and cover up bring them all to court for treason does anyone know what’s the penalty for treason.

  5. KISHORE MAKHIJANI says:

    factual guilt and legal guilt!!!!!!
is there something called factual morality and legal morality also.
    wow!
my mom has taught me right is right and wrong is wrong and she clearly told me not to play with words and try to defend your wrong.

  6. Joe Blank says:

Interesting. Is this an escape-valve with a pre-determined ending? Or is the tail finally wagging the dog? I am inclined to believe the former. Magistrates are not the independent creatures judges are. So, this story is likely scripted and we may get screwed once again!
