Roaring Creek resident injured in Hit and Run near Cotton Tree Village

Alexander Shepherd

Earlier in the day, there was yet another traffic accident on the same stretch of the George Price Highway. This time, it was a hit and run accident which sent Alexander Shepherd to the general ward of the Western Regional Hospital. The forty-two year old Roaring Creek resident and his eleven year old son were riding their bicycles on the highway when a water truck came from behind and hit Shepherd. While his son escaped the hit and run, Shepherd landed on the pavement sustaining injuries to his left leg and left hand. The truck was later found abandoned near St. Matthews Village, while the driver was apprehended later in the afternoon. Shepherd told News Five today that he has been riding for twenty-five years.

Alexander Shepherd, Accident Victim

“A truck just come from the back and hit me, knocked me off the road and just continued…it never stopped to render aid or nothing like that. I tried calling for help, get the police and end up standing middle road to stop a vehicle to get me to the hospital because I am bleeding and stuff like that. One of my friends stopped and took me to the hospital. I was also with my eleven year old son who was also riding with me, but thank god nothing happened to him.  We usually do our morning workout…about ten to fifteen miles just to get him use to the road.”

“So this truck…were you able to get a license plate or anything of that sort?”

Alexander Shepherd

“At first I thought it was an oil truck, but when I gave the description and everything of the truck and they found the truck, it was a water truck…a truck that wets the road. So we managed to find the truck abandoned at St. Matthews and afterwards they picked up the driver, but I still don’t know who the driver is.”

“Now the injuries that you sustained; could you tell us about that?”

Alexander Shepherd

“Well I just tear out the back of my foot, like above my heel; the tendons and everything just tear out. It was a mess and the doctor tell me that he will do ih best and do everything ih could to help me. And he did his best. He said that I could be forty percent not back the way it should be.”
