“We’ve just handed over eleven motorcycles, bought by the government of Belize exclusively at the tune about forty to forty-five thousand dollars. The helmets were donated by Benny’s of which we are grateful. The idea is that our officers need some mobility to get around the inspect sites before there is an issue. And many times, as you know the law requires hotels, gas stations, butane depots all to be inspected on an annual basis for compliance and many times, when we don’t have that kind of mobility, we have to depend on who comes to pick you up and that kind of thing. When you think of fire, you generally think of the fire engines, but you don’t think that there is a mobile transport that is required outside of the fire engine. So we hope that this will solve that issue in all the districts where we are.”

The motorbikes will be dispatched to all districts and according to Acting Fire Chief, Ted Smith; this will assist in disseminating information to the public.

“The cycles will be distributed throughout the country from PG to Corozal and from Benque to Belize City. They will be utilized by the office commanding at these stations to conduct fire safety inspections thereby reducing the risk of fires occurring in certain establishments as well as to conduct administrative functions including fire investigations, things of that nature. As we now speak, we are preparing to launch early in May, fire safety guidelines in relations to brushfires in the country of Belize. We already prepared these pamphlets and they will be distributed shortly…early in April they will be distributed.”

Personnel who were trained to ride the cycles gave a demonstration following the short ceremony. Duane Moody for News Five.

Another Hocus Pocus show to fool the Belizean people into thinking that Government is working. It is not!! All the professionals in the Safety Industry will tell you that the only way to minimize the danger of fires is to get the Fire Department Inspectors to ensure Electricians are licensed and are using registered materials and complying with regulations. It is also necessary for Building Contractors to be certified and use recognized construction methods to reduce the risk of fires! Everything else is just song and dance.

    Fire safety prevention????
More like “I going to pick up my gial from work and some fry chicken” motorcycle….
Media should issue a $500 challenge/reward, catch public officials using pubic vehicles during work hours to do anything but their work.
After two or three people get shammed you will see how fast they stop their nonsense.
