Meet the artists at the House of Culture

A group of four Belizean artists, including well-known painter Terryl Godoy, launched a two-week art exhibit at the House of Culture today.  The formal unveiling was done before an audience of high school students in an ongoing series dubbed Meet the Artists.  Their works are a collection of oil on canvas depicting the panorama of Belize City, the abstract expression of Belizean music, wooden sculptures portraying our rich marine life, as well as realistic portraits of our people.

“We are also featuring today Fred Trejo, Eduardo Alamilla, and Sam Gonzalez.  Now Fred Trejo is known for his realistic type of scenery which captures moments of the past.  Eduardo Alamilla, also known as Papo, is from San Pedro and he creates paintings that have two realistic photo finish to them.  One of these pieces, Taquito, seizes on the essence of the growing age for us older generation.  The moment you see that photo it reminds you of a time of yesteryear.  And finally, Sam Gonzalez is creating sculptures using doors and he does this as a hobby.  When you look at those doors and you can see the artistic nature of the doors and what all that went into it, you would be, I’m hoping that you would be inspired.  You know, NICH is here to foster an enabling environment for culture and history.  We take pride in these opportunities where we are able to showcase artists within our community and to really show what talent is available, especially to the students so that if you have that talent in you, you could see how far you could go.”

Select pieces on display at the House of Culture are currently on sale.
